5/6/2023 0 Comments Apimac timer 8.0While the Mac OS was filled with APIs that shared memory to pass data, under Carbon all such access was re-implemented using accessor subroutines on opaque data types. The Carbon libraries are extensively cleaned up, modernized and better "protected". Carbon consists of many libraries and functions that offer a Mac-like API, but running on top of the underlying Unix-like OS, rather than a copy of the Mac OS running in emulation. In order to offer a real and well supported upgrade path for existing Mac OS code bases, Apple introduced the Carbon system. This was the only release based on the original Rhapsody concept. The original Rhapsody concept, with only the Blue Box for running existing Mac OS software, was eventually released in 1999 as Mac OS X Server 1.0. When Steve Jobs announced this change in direction at the 1998 WWDC, he stated that "what developers really wanted was a modern version of the Mac OS, and Apple going to deliver it". Larger developers like Microsoft and Adobe balked outright, and refused to consider porting to OpenStep, which was so different from the existing Mac OS that there was little or no compatibility.Īpple took these concerns to heart. They took to calling the Blue Box the "penalty box". When this plan was revealed at the Worldwide Developers Conference in 1997 there was some push-back from existing Mac OS developers, who were upset that their code bases would effectively be locked into an emulator that was unlikely to ever be updated. The new Rhapsody was relatively simple it retained most of OpenStep's existing object libraries under the name "Yellow Box", ported OpenStep's existing GUI and made it look more Mac-like, ported several major APIs from the Mac OS to Rhapsody's underlying Unix-like system (notably QuickTime and AppleSearch), and added an emulator known as the "Blue Box" that ran existing Mac OS software. With the purchase of NeXT in late 1996, Apple developed a new operating system strategy based largely on the existing OpenStep platform. By the mid-1990s, most Mac software was written in C++ using CodeWarrior. Over time, a number of object libraries evolved on the Mac, notably the Object Pascal library MacApp and the Think Class Library (TCL) in Pascal, and later versions of MacApp and CodeWarrior's PowerPlant in C++. Much of the Macintosh Toolbox consisted of procedure calls, passing information back and forth between the API and program using a variety of data structures based on Pascal's variant record concept. The original Mac OS used Pascal as its primary development platform, and the APIs were heavily based on Pascal's call semantics. "Carbonized" application Adobe Systems ImageReady v.7.0 running directly on Mac OS X version 10.2 Classic Mac OS programming Apple did not create a 64-bit version of Carbon while updating their other frameworks in the 2007 time-frame, and eventually deprecated the entire API in OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, which was released on July 24, 2012. As the market has increasingly moved to the Cocoa-based frameworks, especially after the release of iOS, the need for a porting library was diluted. With the release of macOS 10.15 Catalina, the Carbon API was officially discontinued and removed, leaving Cocoa as the sole primary API for developing macOS applications.Ĭarbon was an important part of Apple's strategy for bringing Mac OS X to market, offering a path for quick porting of existing software applications, as well as a means of shipping applications that would run on either Mac OS X or the classic Mac OS. Developers could use the Carbon APIs to port (“carbonize”) their “classic” Mac applications and software to the Mac OS X platform with little effort, compared to porting the app to the entirely different Cocoa system, which originated in OPENSTEP. Carbon provided a good degree of backward compatibility for programs that ran on Mac OS 8 and 9. at the Wayback Machine (archived April 20, 2009)Ĭarbon was one of two primary C-based application programming interfaces (APIs) developed by Apple for the macOS (formerly Mac OS X and OS X) operating system. It has been suggested that Multiprocessing Services be merged into this article.

5/6/2023 0 Comments Easy meal planning recipesCooking is the last thing I want to do and I’d rather have chips, dips and a dessert for dinner. I find it especially easy to reach for sweets and pizza when I do have a stressful week. One way to stay healthy is to eat healthy the majority of the time. Your health, your happiness and peace of mind. When you’re only focused on putting out fires you didn’t even start all day long, you’re forgetting something far more important: yourself. That’s what leftovers are for! (Don’t forget, they’re also great for next-day lunches.Having a lot on your plate can easily mess up your priorities and make you ignore the basics, the essentials – the things that we actually need in order to live a life that we like. But chances are, you’ll run into times when cooking isn’t in the cards and your carefully devised meal plan starts to crumble before your eyes. If you’re interested in cooking a single-serving meal seven days a week, more power to you. When it comes to meal-prepping and planning, batch cooking will quickly become your best friend. Think of it this way: What can you make ahead of time that can be easily reheated day-of? For example, roasting vegetables and whipping up a big pot of rice or grains can be accomplished during a Sunday Netflix session, saving time in the long run. Not only does it eliminate wasted food, it also leaves you with a slew of freezer meals for nights you don’t feel like lifting a finger. If you know you won’t eat that chili three days in a row, portion it into food-safe containers and freeze it for a rainy day. Many foods will keep in the freezer for months after you make them: casseroles, soups, stews, sauces, you get the idea. OK, maybe you don’t want to make half a lasagna-that’s fine, too. Depending on what you’re making, you might need to adjust the cooking time (smaller portions usually need less time to cook), but if you use your best chef senses (i.e., smell, sight, sizzling), you’ll be fine. The good news? With some very simple math, you can easily divide those recipes in half. Sure, most entrées are meant to serve four people (or more). This absorbs excess moisture while keeping them fresh.) 3. ( Psst: Worried about pre-washed veggies getting slimy? Wrap them in paper towels before returning them to their bags. Think of all the time you’ll save on Tuesday night when that kale’s already clean. That means washing greens and vegetables, breaking down large packs of chicken breasts into individual ones and freezing things you know you won’t need right away. Instead of shoving things into the pantry and out of sight, spend a little extra time pre-portioning and prepping what you just bought. Whew, the shopping is done-now it’s time to unpack those groceries. Plus, you’ll be more likely to stick to a budget when it’s all on paper in front of you. (You can even buy special calendars and download apps like Mealime for this task.) Trust us, though: Once you nail down your menu and grocery lists, you’ll be in and out of Trader Joe’s in no time. Too daunting to look at a month’s worth of meals? Think of it in smaller chunks and make weekly meal plans instead. Set aside 30 minutes of your Sunday to decide what you feel like eating and come up with a shopping list. Brainstorm a Cooking (and Shopping) Planīrace yourself: This might be the most important part of meal planning. the “biggest bang for your buck” syndrome, the core feature of a password manager has to be with evaluating existing passwords and creating new, stronger ones. Let’s face it, while we always want the most features possible for the price, i.e. That’s a win for Kaspersky! Password Strength and Password Generator Feature Most password managers (even the good ones) don’t allow this, and require you to copy and paste passwords into your vault when in offline mode. I found a surprisingly nice additional feature with Kaspersky’s vault which allowed me to autofill information in offline mode, just as though I was actually in my browser. The vault is at the heart of the Kaspersky password manager platform, and it’s where you can store all of your passwords, credit cards, documents and special notes, addresses, key applications and even images. I highlight some of the standout features below. All of the main bases are covered in an easy to use toolbar menu including password management, credit card and document storage, auto sync and autofill, password strength checker, password generator and more. While Kaspersky’s password manager may not have all the functions of Dashlane, Keeper or Sticky Password, it still delivers everything in a day-to-day password manager. I’ve reviewed and tested well-over 70 of the best password managers available, so you can get a clear idea of what will work for you, and what won’t. I bought the upgrade and gave the Kaspersky password manager a full test run, which you can read here. Upgrading to premium is quick and easy and opens up all the features you need without any limits (as in the free version). With Kaspersky, you actually have to download and install the free version to your system in order to buy the premium version anyway, so it’s a good place to start. I think this is a better approach to a free version, unlike others that limit features and functions (F-Secure, for example). With the free version, you can add up to 15 passwords, credit cards, notes, images or addresses to your vault. The Kaspersky password manager is available in two versions, the free version and the paid or premium version. While it started out with highly effective antivirus platforms, it’s since expanded into a wide array of products, from cloud-based security, to password managers and beyond. Kaspersky has been around for decades and is a brand name that’s trusted by millions of users around the world. 5/6/2023 0 Comments Desperados 3 ps4While it includes a few frantic shootouts on the dusty streets of typical western scenery, your weapon of choice is usually anything but a firearm. Desperados is a tactical stealth game where, from an isometric perspective, we guide a group of characters to complete objectives on expansive maps. The undisputed star is the level design and gameplay, which thoroughly impressed me at Gamescom 2018. We still have a bird's eye view of a sprawling map and can command one or several of the characters to kill, sneak by or sabotage the environment to achieve a goal. All of the characters you encounter are stereotypical, but they have unique personality traits that are also reflected in the gameplay, which hasn't changed much over the years. From that perspective, it works incredibly well, and short cut scenes moved the story along at a decent pace. The story often felt like a means to an end, since it throws your characters into a lot of overwhelming situations and then you need to dig yourself out. The story is bare bones and slightly cheesy, but it remains engaging throughout, and the latter half has some interesting moments. In case you were concerned, you won't need any background in the series before jumping in. While I would've loved to see an actual sequel, a prequel makes a lot of sense, since the last entry was released more than 14 years ago. If you're as eager as me to see whether the team captured or surpassed the quality of Desperados, fret not, because Desperados III turned out better than I could have hoped on the consoles, including the PS4 version that we're reviewing today.ĭesperados III tells a prequel story about how gunslinger John Cooper met key characters of the cast, and the title eventually leads up to the first two entries. Here we are, as if my prayers were heard, with another main entry in the Desperados series courtesy of Mimimi and THQ Nordic. If you had asked me a few years ago about the game or genre that I miss the most in today's gaming landscape, my answer would've surely entailed a remake or sequel to either Commandos or Desperados - or any other game that marries stealth and isometric real-time strategy. 5/5/2023 0 Comments Check powercard balanceSell the gift card for money-You can find various kiosks and websites that resell gift cards and sell your new or used card there.Donate the physical card-Some charities accept gift cards as donations.Purchase an item-If you have enough money in your Steam Wallet or on your Steam gift card, you can redeem it for a game, or any other item on Steam. When you find out what the remaining balance on your Steam gift card is, you can do the following: What Can You Do After a Steam Gift Card Balance Check? Personally, I am not a big fan of just lying on one of the tightly arranged sunbeds all day and prefer a wild, hidden beach where you can feel like it’s your own - but I do understand that there are as many preferences as there are people, therefore, if you like relaxing and just doing nothing - you’ll love Mykonos. Visiting Mykonos after we’d just been to Albania (which turned out to be a hidden paradise - check out my posts about Albania), set my expectations really high and for this reason I think, I did not enjoy Mykonos beaches as much as I could have otherwise. Of course, the beaches in Mykonos are lovely - with white/golden sand and crystal clear waters but the landscape around is rather dry, boring and empty. In the winter months, it is mostly deserted. Mykonos is an extremely popular destination - especially for young people, it’s full of parties, beach clubs and crowds over the summer. After roaming around the narrow streets and spending a day in the town, we decided to explore the other parts of the island and relax on the golden beaches. I will write how we reached Mykonos in a separate post describing the impressions of the Mykonos town itself. This post will be useful if you don’t have too much time to spend there and want to use public transport to see some of the most beautiful beaches in Mykonos. Although we stayed in Mykonos only for a weekend, we still had a chance to admire the old town as well as some of the best beaches of the island. While Santorini is popular because of the unique white-washed houses and volcanic landscapes, Mykonos is famous for its golden sand beaches, clear water and parties. When visiting Greece, we had a great chance to see some of its beautiful islands. |
